Air New Zealand launches 'Leaf Peeping' campaign

12 March 2008

Air New Zealand launched a new campaign today aimed at encouraging British nature lovers to travel to New Zealand during the low season autumnal months (April to June).

Research co-ordinated by the airline suggests that autumn is the Brits' favourite season, with over 50% of them naming it the most picturesque in front of spring (26%) and summer (17%). The research also revealed that 60% consider scenery important when selecting a holiday destination, with fauna and flora coming in as the most popular surrounding after beaches.

The airline's campaign, spearheaded by UK gardening guru Diarmuid Gavin, focuses on 'Leaf Peeping' - a quirky pastime where foliage enthusiasts travel to areas with spectacular annual leaf colour changes, a trend now catching on in New Zealand; the home of many outdoor activities.

Air New Zealand General Manager, UK and Europe, Scott Carr, says:

"Our research has shown that what travellers really value is scenery and natural landscapes. Traditionally low season in New Zealand, autumn is the ideal time for visitors to immerse themselves in our sublime natural environment: The airfares are low, the summer crowds have gone and the weather is settled. The fact that New Zealand is also second to none for autumnal Leaf Peeping only reinforces it as an ideal year-round destination."

As part of their campaign, Air New Zealand will be offering £100 off flights to New Zealand through its website, http://www.airnewzealand.co.uk/, between 10th and 17th March.
