It was the dry, sunny climate that attracted German settlers to the Blenheim and Nelson regions over 150 years ago, and their tenacity that shaped it into the prolific fruit-growing, art-producing area that is worth visiting today.

You can pick up local art, glass and other crafts from the many studios in Nelson and around the region. Or venture further west to Moutere to sample the fruity, peppery olive oils at the grove of the award-winning Tasman Bay Olives.
Close by is the Mapua Wharf, where you can enjoy great food and wines at a handful of restaurants overlooking the Waimea estuary. Or for kayaking or bush walking, head over to the region's jewel.
If it's wine tasting you prefer, Blenheim is the place to be. There you can drive or cycle around the vineyards of well-known producers of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Methode Champenoise.
